The dream of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kottar to create professional higher education institutions, took shape as St. Xavier's Catholic College of Engineering in the year 1998 under the nurturing leadership of (the late) Most Rev. Dr. Leon A. Tharmaraj, its founder and the first chairman. The Diocese of Kuzhithurai, bifurcated from the Diocese of kottar, within which, this college is situated, has gladly come forward to continue the rich legacy of SXCCE, with renewed vigor and fresh commitment, under the able leadership of the Most Rev. Dr. Jeromedhas Varuvel, the present chairman and our Bishop.
Thirithuapuram and Mulagumoodu Vicariates are two integral parts of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kottar in Kanyakumari Disitict. The long standing aspirations of the people of this area and their combined efforts have fructified into the establishment of St. Xavier's Catholic College of Nursing. The College aims at preparing graduates who will have the ability to approach health care from a broader and deeper knowledge base and from a greater capacity to apply analytic, synthetic and interpretative skills to their role. The B, Sc. Programme is intended to develop the student as a person who will strive to fulfill his/her role as member of the nursing profession to uphold the dignity of the profession and to establish professional autonomy in nursing education, practice and research
Nanjil Catholic College of Arts and Science, Kaliyakkavilai has been established by Nanjil Milk Plant (a unit of the Diocese of Kuzhithurai), Mulagumoodu vide Government of Tamilnadu G.O. No. 150 dated 26.7.2012. Nanjil Milk Plant, Mulagumoodu, a dreamy and innovative project of the Diocese of Kuzhithurai, has been rendering noble service to the poor, the lowest and the lost through its manifold welfare and developmental programmes. Every year it offers several lakhs of rupees as scholarships to the needy and poor students of the region to pursue their higher studies in Professional Colleges and Arts & Science Colleges.
In keeping pace with the sweeping technological advancements, the necessity to provide technical education to the youth of this region, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kottar in Kanyakumari district established this polytechnic college in august 1984. This polytechnic college was granted recognition by the government of Tamil nadu as a co-educational institution with a total intake of 180 seats vide G.O.763 EST/84 dt.13.6.1984, offering three branches of engineering such as Civil, Mechanical and Electronics & Communication. The three storeyed main black was officially declared open on 24.08.1987 by the founder patron of the college and Bishop of Kottar, the most Rev.Dr.M.Arokiasamy.D.D.
